3-Inch Small Ridge Afghan Square
In the attempt to finish my 30/30 challenge here on Hubpages, I have decided to publish one of my crochet patterns.
Earlier in the year, I signed up for a 365 day granny challenge, which you can read more about here. As a result of that challenge, I have designed a small group of some 3” afghan squares.
In this hub, I would like to share my 3-inch small ridge afghan square. The pattern is worked in the back loops, which then creates a small ridge at the front of the square.
The afghan square only measures 3” and is fairly easy to do. It actually looks more like a circle, but once you join it to other squares, it shapes up quite nicely.
Material: Patons Canadiana - The New Generation (A small amount of 3 colors.)
Hook Size: H/8-5.00MM
Skill Level: Easy
Notes and Abbreviations
Unless otherwise stated, the pattern is worked in both loops.
CA = First Color
CB = Second Color
CC = Third Color
Bl/bls = Back Loop/Back Loops
Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
FO = Fasten Off
Hdc = Half Double Crochet
Lp/Lps = Loops/Loops
Rnd/Rnds = Round/Rounds
Sc = Single Crochet
Sk = Skip
Sl St = Slip Stitch
Sp/Sps = Space/Spaces
St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches
The Pattern
With CA, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 2 sc into each ch. Join with sl st. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, working in bl only, (sc, ch 1) in first st and in each st around. Join with sl st. (8 ch-1 sps)
Rnd 3: Sl st into ch-1 sp. Join CB, ch 1, 5 hdc in same ch-1 sp, *hdc in next ch-1 sp**, 5 hdc in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * around, ending at **. Join with sl st. (24 sts)
Rnd 4: Join CC, ch 1, (sc, ch 2) in first st, sk next st, *(sc, ch 2) in next st, sk next st, repeat from * around. Join with sl st. (12 ch-2 lps)
Rnd 5: Ch 1, working in bl only, sc in each st and ch around. Join with sl st. (36 sts) F.O.
You can join this square simply by sewing it to another, or you can use a fancy joining stitch, such as the flat braid. I happen to like the flat braid as it adds a lacy touch to it.
Fall Flower Afghan
This is another one of my afghan square patterns. I actually took the time to make a large afghan - it was very time consuming, but I really love it. I know that they are fall colors, but I love it so much that I am still using it. It is super warm. - Fall Flower Afghan
Afghan Square
I made this afghan square all in one color, however, in the future I think I will try making it in several colors and see how that looks. I don't think I can go wrong... - Afghan Square

I've actually made baby afghans using small squares like this. Oh my goodness it takes a long time! LOL! I'm wondering why in the last round you don't make corners to square it out so it won't be round. But either way it's very pretty.
