Free Crochet Patterns for Hats

Crocheted hats are always in style, whether it be in the winter or in the summer. They not only help to keep your head nice and warm, but brimmed hats can also help to keep the sun out of the eyes. In addition, hats are a great way to deal with a bad hair day.

Most hats are crocheted in the round, and worked from the top-center down. The stitches are increased in each round until the circumference is large enough, and then the rows are worked in even stitches in order to create the shape in the hat.

As with many other crochet accessories, crocheted hats are fun and easy to make. Some patterns are more difficult than others, however, there are many hat patterns that are suitable for beginners. If you are a beginner, you might want to check out my other hub on beginner crochet patterns. There you will find a few nice hat patterns for beginners.

Most crochet hat patterns call for a worsted weight yarn, which helps for the hat to crochet up quite fast. Some hats can be crocheted up in as little as an hour, but others can take at least several hours to make.

The color combo in this fall blaze hat is absolutely stunning! I also love the stitch combinations that are used in this pattern. The stitches are very simple in each row, however, they work together to create a nice lacy design. - Fall Blaze Hat

I love the brim on this hat. The brim flares out towards the back, which adds a lovely touch to the style. The skill level is easy and the yarn used is a sport weight or anything similar that matches the gauge. - Fireman-Style Brim Hat

RTalloni, Thank you and you are very welcome! I too love the textured designs, and all it takes is a few front post or back post stitches.

agreenworld, Thank you as well. Yes, the slouching for charity was a good thing they put on...it's always good to help others who are less fortunate than you. Thanks for stopping by.

Not a big hat wearer hear in Hawaii, but I did crochet them when I lived on the mainland and I occasionally make them for gift-giving. This is a nice collection of patterns. (The right shade of) blue and brown are one of my favorite color combos. Rated up and useful!

You are making me wish I was somewhere in warm climate too. :) But I guess I can't complain too much because this winter has been real good so far...hardly any snow and I hope it stays that way.
