My 20 Favorite Free Crochet Patterns of 2011

The internet is an excellent resource for free crochet patterns. You can find just about any pattern that you are looking for, including items for the home, kitchen and bath, as well as clothing and accessories for adults, children and babies. A large number of them are being added on a daily basis, not only by well-known yarn companies, but there are also many individual artists who enjoy sharing their free crochet patterns.

With so many patterns, the chances of ever seeing them all is nearly impossible. But I came across a large number of them in 2011, and also designed a few of my own.

In this hub I would like to share some of my favorite crochet patterns of the year. It was already difficult for me to decide between some of them, but it got even more difficult to decide between the top 20. So I picked my 20 favorite free crochet patterns of 2011, and here they are in alphabetical order...

I don’t think that this a new pattern created in 2011, but it is so beautiful that I wanted to share it with you. The cake has three layers, with each layer a tad bit smaller than the previous in order to resemble a real wedding cake. This is a quick and easy crochet pattern, yet it looks very lovely. It is somewhat lacy with a few textured lines running along the hood. Although the hooded scarf is made in only one color, you can make it with two or more colors in order to create stripes. Aesthetic Hooded Scarf

This is a free crochet pattern for an 18” doll dress. The dress is lacy with a ruffled edge around the sleeves and the bottom. It is perfect for any little girl’s doll. The pattern is intermediate, and the yarn used is a size 10 of Red Heart Crochet cotton thread. American Girl Doll Summer Raglan Dress

This is a very beautiful and lacy wrap made with Colinette Art yarn. The pattern is not written, but it provides a great chart that you can go by. Also, you can make the wrap any size that you want it to be. Aphrodite Wrap

This is a unique baby blanket with an applique of a little girl’s face. It is perfect for any baby girl or a small toddler. The applique girl is wearing a hat, and has two braids hanging down, one on each side of her head. Absolutely adorable! Appliqued Bubble Wrap Crochet Blanket

Broomstick lace can be very addictive once you get going on it. It is very easy to learn, and the method allows you to create very beautiful crochet projects. This pattern is for a broomstick lace wrap, which you can easily make in any size that you want it to be. Broomstick Lace Wrap

This is a wonderful 5-pointed snowflake. It has little hearts in the center followed by a large loop to encase the hearts. The edging of the flake is also very beautiful. Century Snowflake

This crochet cloche is absolutely stunning. The stitches work together to create a nice lacy, yet solid look. This pattern also provides instructions on how to make a matching flower. Very beautiful, and the pattern looks like it is very easy to follow. Charleston Cloche

I just absolutely love this free crochet pattern, including the color, the pompoms and the rest of the design. It looks lacy, yet nice and warm to keep your neck and shoulders warm. The yarn used is Red Heart worsted yarn. Cherry Ice Cream Warming Collar

This is a very beautiful snowflake purse. I love the color combination used, as well as the wonderful snowflake design in the center. It is great to help you get into the winter spirit, or at any time of the year. A must have for snowflake lovers. Cinnamon Pass Snowflake Purse

Here is a free crochet pattern for a neat little gift bag made with plarn and yarn. Plarn is the term used for plastic yarn, and in this pattern it helps to create a nice sturdy little bag. The top is then trimmed off with a yarn in order to add an extra touch. Cluster Stitch Recycled Gift Bag

This looks like a super warm shawl to keep your back and shoulders nice and warm in the cold winter months. It not only looks cozy, but it also looks very stylish. The yarn used is Red Heart Super Saver, but any yarn can be used. Confetti Shawl

This pattern is on my to-do list, and I might be able to get it started somewhere at the end of this year. It is an absolutely beautiful free crochet pattern. Very stylish and lacy, yet it looks warm and cozy. Melissa Twinset

This is a very nice little baby sweater vest for a newborn. The pattern works up very fast and has a nice trim along the edges. This particular pattern is given in one size only, but there is a link to a larger size on the pattern page as well as a link to make a matching hat. Newborn Baby Vest

Another beautiful afghan to crochet. The pattern provides instructions on how to make it in three different sizes, including a baby blanket, medium sized lapghan or a regular sized throw. The crochet pattern calls for Red Heart Super Saver, or any worsted weight yarn. Ocean Tranquility Afghan
