My First 30/30 Hub Challenge - What I Have Learned
Well I have to admit that my own 30/30 hub challenge turned into a 30/44 challenge instead. Thirty hubs in 44 days instead of in 30. But I won’t be too hard on myself because I believe that it is better to finish late than never. Words have never come easy for me, which makes writing even more challenging. But I find that the more I write, the easier it gets.
I learned a lot over the course of the last 44 days, and the purpose of this hub is to share some of those things with you.
The Content is There
Most writers, and myself included, often do not feel as though they have enough content within themselves to write on a regular basis. But all it takes is a little bit of brain-picking to discover that you have collected way more content than what you could possibly ever write about.
I will also admit that I signed up to receive MomWithAHook’s crochet newsletter. As one of her thank you gifts, she sent me an e-book of 365 crochet topics to write about. A lot of her ideas were already in my mind, but she had several that I hadn’t thought about. So thank you Sara for the future inspirations.
Publish Regularly
I don’t fully understand all the factors that go into the hub score and the profile score. However, I did notice that when I published on a regular basis that my profile score goes up. Not that it matters in the search engines, but to me a 90 looks much better than an 85.
I also noticed that when you publish a new hub that you get more traffic from Hubpages, which is always a good thing. In addition, and perhaps this is in my imagination only as I haven’t quite experimented with it enough, but it seems that when you bookmark the hub in Twitter, Redgage, Facebook and others, as soon as it is published that it gets even more traffic.
Traffic & Earnings
Even though I doubled the amount of hubs, my traffic did not double. I guess it takes time for the hubs to be indexed in the search engines, and thus the results will follow in time. I did, however, see a positive increase in both traffic and earnings, which is enough to keep me going. At 50 hubs I still have a long way to go, but it is a good start.
Organization
Another benefit of this challenge is that it helped me to organize the information within myself in order to write more organized articles. This is an important skill for a writer because it helps the articles to flow smoother, which makes it easier for the readers.
Improve Crochet Patterns
During this challenge I wrote a few articles on learning how to crochet and how to read crochet patterns. Although this information is old news to me, going over it and actually writing it down has inspired me to write neater patterns that adhere to better standards. One of my main goals is to put a skill level beside each pattern in order to help others to see at a glance the difficulty of it.
This challenge has been fun, and I hope to do another one in the near future.

Congrats! I am also trying to publish 30 hubs in 30 days, as I am new here. This was really helpful to see because it is exactly what I am going through right now! Thanks for sharing your experiences:)
congrats. you were braver than I.
You know, I had a hard time keeping up with your crochet hubs and was wondering why you were publishing so frequently. Then I remembered you stated somewhere that you were doing a 30-day challenge. I think you should be VERY proud of yourself for having published 30 well-written hubs in such a short period of time.
A fellow hubber, vox vocis, spearheaded a 30-day challenge at another writing site. It was from her that I learned how easy it is to generate ideas for articles using a method called mind mapping (if you like, I can post a link to her article about ways to generate ideas for articles). I came up with a good 12 articles to write about during her challenge on the subject of windward Oahu where I live. And while I didn't write 30 articles (only 6, in fact), I consider the challenge a success for having learned that technique of generating article topics.
Btw, thanks loads for the link to the Mom With a Hook blog. I've just subscribed to her newsletter and can't wait to get the topic list. I need it mostly for my crochet blog so that I can post more regularly.
A job well done, Rhelena! Voted up and awesome!
Okay, Rhelena, I have two links for you. The first one is how to get ready for a 30-day challenge:

The second is about how to generate article ideas:

The two links provide comprehensive information on how to successfully participate in a 30-day challenge, no matter where you write.
You're welcome! The comments below the articles contain good info as well.
Rhelena, Good job doing a challenge like this.

Congrats. You did a great job. I've been loving the content you've added and even linked to the reading crochet articles via my blog. Btw thanks for the mention. That list of crochet topics was birthed out of my list of squidoo lenses to make. Glad it helped you.
