Patons Canadiana - The New Generation
Patons Canadiana - The New Generation is one of my new favorite yarns. The medium weight yarn is an improvement of the old Canadiana, which is no longer in production. At first I was a bit sad to see it go, but I have really taken a liken to The New Generation.
The New Generation is slightly thinner than the old, and perhaps a bit softer too. Not only is it soft, but it is also durable, easy to work with and easy to care for. In addition, it is a perfect yarn for those just learning how to crochet as well as for the more experienced. And it’s not just for crocheting; as with most yarns, you can also use it for knitting.
I find that this yarn drapes exceptionally well, which makes it the perfect yarn for wraps, sweaters and other clothing items. It is also a great yarn for making afghans, hats, scarves, bags and purses, and many other accessories. And according to their website, it is also suitable for use in baby items.
The New Generation is available in a variety of different colors and shades, including both solids and multi-colors.
So far the only store that I have ever seen this yarn in is Len’s Mill. I am not sure if Michaels carries it or not. I checked their website, and spotted a few Patons’ yarns, but not the Canadiana.
Broomstick Lace Wrap
Here is a free crochet pattern for a wrap, which I designed using Patons Canadiana The New Generation. It is a broomstick lace wrap, and even though it is on the lacy side, it will do a good job at keeping your shoulders and upper back warm. - Broomstick Lace Wrap
Broomstick Lace Cowl
Another pattern that I designed with the yarn is this broomstick lace cowl. You could almost refer to this as a neck-warmer because unlike most cowls, this one fits somewhat snug around the neck. But regardless of what you call it, it will still keep you warm. - Broomstick Lace Cowl
